Woodbridge, Virginia Real Estate: Should I Buy A Home Or Rent?
The other day, I had a conversation with one of my really good friends. He’s been renting for the last seven years and years ago, he owned a house with his wife before they got divorced.
He called me and said,
“Dan, I’ve been thinking should I buy a home or just rent?”
I responded,
“It’s really up to you.”
I asked him,
What are your long term goals?
How long do you think you’re gonna be in this area?
How much money do you have for the down payment?
Everybody’s position is unique, and each person has their own goals.
In my friend’s case, he had very little money for a downpayment. I was able to show him the way to buy with the financial ability that he had.
You do not always need a downpayment to buy a home, and many great loan products will help you buy with little or no money down.
After my friend and I discussed his scenario, he chooses to buy rather than rent.
The deciding factor for him was when he realized that while he was renting the past years, his ex-wife and new husband were able to retire when they recently sold their home.
The difference between wealth in a renter and a homeowner is tremendous. On average, homeowners have 41% to 45% greater net worth than a renter.
